Valentines Day is nearly here and of course it is good for some and a difficult day for others. For me, if you read my first blog (here), you’ll know I’m on the very single territory…..but that doesn’t stop me in believing in love or want to embrace Valentines Day. In fact I am one of those people who believes in love with all of my soul, maybe perhaps too much!
I LOVE a romantic book and film.
The first movie that started and cemented my love of love……Robin Hood Prince of Thieves…..my oldest friends will tell you how much i adored this movie and could say every line. What was yours? Add in more recent books and films – lets face it anything by Cecelia Ahern and Nicholas Sparks is always heart wrenching and full of every aspect of love and friendship. I don’t know anyone that wasn’t moved by Holly and Gerry’s love in PS I Love you, but not just their love but the honest and loving friendships that surrounded them. Infact I made my wedding bouquet out of the pages of this book and had my friends write on the pages before they were folded.
Some people may say the love that’s portrayed is unrealistic love…..the look, the perfect kiss, the adorable sentiments and passion….. I say rubbish!! Why? Because I’m blessed to know couples that are that in love… that’s not to say they don’t argue and bicker or go through difficult times but I see the love in their eyes for each other, the way they look after each other. And I’ve been in love….hey it might not have worked out…we all have heart-break. BUT heart-break has taught me so much and has given me the greatest treasures in my life. Had I not fallen in love so deeply, my children wouldn’t be here today and so I will be eternally grateful for love. I am blessed now with a type of love I had never felt before….unconditional love.
I saw this recently on Motherhood Support on Facebook.
I tell my kids every day that I love them…I’m not sure I tell them why though. This is so beautiful …. if anyone else does this post a picture in the comments for me. I’ll post mine too on the 14th.
You may have gathered my intense belief in love but I’m not a believer in the hype that comes with Valentines day….the raised prices, expensive meals etc. The best Valentines gift that I’ve ever received (…so far 😉 ) I actually didn’t see my partner of the time at all – they were at work and they left me a box, it was full of lovely toiletries, sweets, a CD (we are talking times before digital music!!!) and instructions to just relax and have a good long soak in the bath. Exactly what I needed…..it was perfect to think that they loved me to notice what I needed before I did.
So on Valentines Day celebrate love……who do you love, your partner, your kids, your best friend, your furry friend? but also who have you loved? I think its a lovely time to acknowledge the love they give, or gave, to you and the importance of it. Love shapes you and makes you who you are.
So whatever you do this Valentines Day I hope it is filled with love and if I can help then please get in touch (here) xx
